Confident Knitting Projects, Winter

It’s hard to believe that we’ve nearly completed a year of Confident Knitting! It’s been amazing to see the myriad beautiful projects started and the new skills mastered by so many of you. We hope the book has given you a big confidence boost!

Today, I’d like to show off some of the beautiful customer projects shared over in The Knitalong Hub this winter … from hats to homewares, some fabulous projects have come out of our last three knitalongs!

We welcomed December with Gudrun Johnston’s fun colourwork design, the Stellar Hat, learning all about how German twisted and long-tail cast on can set us up brilliantly for ribbing. With the technique mastered at the beginning of the project, the star of the KAL became Gudrun’s geometric colourwork motif … we loved seeing all the colour combinations you came up with!

From left to right, Stellar Has knit by Knitalong Hub users RuthMaryMac, ElaineA and LindaCarole.

This is such a versatile technique, suited not just for ribbed hats but for sleeves, sweater hems … really, any project where you’d like a cast-on edge that flows nicely into ribbing. And it was great to see plenty of folks applying it to other projects.

We then rang in the new year with Jimenez Joseph’s out-of-this-world Saturnus Cushions, and wow, you all embraced grab stitches with gusto! This was a really fun technique in that it was new to SO many people. There were plenty of beautiful versions knit up in the Third Vault Yarns hand-dyed featured for this project, as well as some really creative yarn subs. The results are spectacular!

First up, finished Saturnus Cushiosn from JackieP and Debbi … note the fun buttons on each! Both knit in gorgeous shades of Third Vault Yarns:

SeaweedSarah used her own naturally-dyed yarn for her version of the Saturnus Cushion … and is currently knitting a second!

And Roely experimented with grab stitches and stripes, with fab results!

And we are, of course, wrapping things up with Carol Feller’s Prime Blanket, featuring i-cord cast off! This final project is one of the larger patterns in the book, but finished blankets are already coming off the needles … and some beautiful in-progress blankets have been shared, like this one from Ikumi G …. You can spy some other beautiful blankets shaping up over in the February KAL topic.

A massive thanks to everyone who has purchased Confident Knitting, whether you’ve knit happily on your own at home or taken part in our online knitalongs! And special shout out to the customers who have graciously allowed us to share their work in these round up posts. We hope the book continues to be a source of joy, and a helpful reference, even as the official knitalongs come to an end. And of course, if you’d like to get your copy and haven’t yet, you can purchase a copy in the online shop through the end of February. After that, you’ll be able to grab our books from your favourite local yarn shop … if they don’t stock our books yet, suggest they get in touch with Fyberspates for wholesale opportunities!
