I’d been feeling the need for an interesting staple cardigan in my wardrobe and clocked the Transom Cardigan as soon as Field Guide No. 14 was released. It wasn’t until last November, when we were running our Bringing Joy knitalong, that I got to cast on with some delectable Stolen Stitches Nua.

And let me tell you, this cardigan has certainly brought lots of joy! There was the joy of starting … the interesting top-down construction, the cable detail that kept things engaging, the luxury of this really unique yarn. After work knitting meant I had to set it down for a bit, there was the joy of returning to the WIP, working those lovely sleeve caps, starting to imagine actually wearing the thing! And then there was the rush of excitement as I tried to finish this in time for Unravel a few weeks ago, which I just managed! Hoorah!

That cable panel down the back? I love it…

Finally, of course, there’s the joy in having a me-made garment that I know is going to get loads of wear! The Nua yarn really creates the most wonderful fabric – the merino-yak-linen blend is so unusual – it gives a heathered look. And the stitch definition is brilliant! The result is a nearly all-season cardigan that will go with practically everything in my wardrobe. I’m not sure what could be better than that?

Free yarn!
If you’re feeling the urge to knit a Transom Cardigan of your own, we’ve got copies of Field Guide No. 14 in stock, as well as Stolen Stitches Nua in an array of shades. Until the end of Sunday we have an automatic discount on Nua – if you add eight skeins to your cart, one of them will be free (so you pay for seven and get eight). If you add 16 skeins to your cart, two of them will be free, and so on… No need to add a code, the discount is automatic (but cannot be combined with any other discount code).

And if you’re after the joy of adding a me-made sweater to your wardrobe, but not quite ready to tackle a cardigan, we also have the latest Field Guide, Beginnings in stock. It’s got two fabulous beginner-friendly sweater patterns, perfect for boosting your garment making confidence! (Although they’re great for more experienced knitters too … I’ve already got plans to cast on the Debut Pullover…)

I picked up these beauties from Wool Kitchen at Unravel … I think they’ll be the perfect match for Karida Collins’ elegant Debut Pullover.
