My Conviviality Cardigan from Something to Knit Together is well underway, and oh am I loving it. Cardigans do very heavy duty in my wardrobe, and I know I’m going to wear this one lots. And this particular cardigan has a few things going for it that make an extra pleasurable knit in my book.

First, there’s no button band. Jen might take vacations on sleeve island, but button band isthmus is the spot my knitting ship often gets wrecked. The Convivality Cardigan has no buttons and the front edgings are worked as you complete the body — win! Second, it’s v-neck. I’ve got nothing against round neck cardigans, but I find v-neck cardis easier to layer … there’s less of a danger of clashing necklines. Third, it’s got interest. I often lose knitting steam when faced with long purl rows, but the satisfaction of being able to tick off another lace repeat has kept me really engaged, even as my yoke rows have gotten long.

My big Conviviality love-in has me daydreaming about what cardigan projects I might tackle next. I really adore the modern lace and cocoon shape of Jeanette Sloan’s Mood Cardigan from Field Guide No. 15.
Worked up in the delicious wool, yak and linen blend of Stolen Stitches Nua, I think it’d be a great year-round piece. I particularly like the idea of layering over dresses come this autumn — maybe in Frog on the Wall?

And thinking about the Mood Cardigan in Nua reminded me that I still want to knit the Transom Cardigan by Carol Feller from Field Guide No. 14: Refresh. Another beautiful v-neck cardigan, with simple cables on the back and sleeves to keep the knitting interesting … it would be such a good wardrobe staple, I’ll even forgive it its button band!

In my dreamworld where I finish my Conviviality Cardigan and these two cardigans before the first autumn leaves fall, I think I’d be ready for something a bit cosier to snuggle up in as the nights draw in .. and let’s be honest, something that would knit up a bit faster after three 4ply/sport cardigans! There might be a few somethings in the works that could answer perfectly … so I better get my needles going!
